Challenge

Unstable availability of reclaimed water. Client needed to develop a new strategy to ensure stable reclaim while reducing incoming fresh water.

Barriers

Facilities staff understood each system but lacked insights into how each system impacted other systems. Additionally, the team had difficulty justifying new projects and estimating ROI, they did not have the tools to understand the impacts of each idea and were afraid to make the wrong decision.

Solution

FTD created a baseline water model to reveal low hanging fruit and identify risks, then developed a strategy based on the site boundaries and constraints to ensure that solutions increased reclaim, reduced freshwater withdrawal and maintained compliance. Solutions included a new method of operating the cooling towers.
